Aizawl the capital of Mizoram state, a northeastern India is situated on a ridge at an elevation of about 2,950 ft (900 m). The surrounding region is part of the Assam-Myanmar geologic province, with steeply inclined hill ranges. Many of the people are from Myanmar (Burma). In the 1970s Aizawl was the scene of an armed attack on the government treasury by members of the Mizo National Front. Manufactures include aluminum utensils, handloom textiles, and furniture. **Aizawl - Place to visit** Bara Bazar This is the main shopping center with stalls selling garments and other commodities. The people are seen in their traditional costumes selling produce from farms and homesteads including river crabs with little wicker baskets. Luangmual Handicarfts Centre 7 Kms away, takes half an hour to reach by car. The 'Khumbeu' ceremonial bamboo hat is made here using waterproof 'hnahthial' leaves. Mizoram State Museum This museum is situated at Mc Donald Hill in the town center. Open Monday - Friday from 9:00 A.M to 5 PM. Saturday 9 AM to 1 PM. Though small, it has an interesting collection of historical relics, ancient costumes and traditional implements. Durtlang Hills These beautiful, craggy hills offer a good view of Aizawl. Mini Zoo Home to species of animals and birds found only in the hills of Mizoram Berawtlang Tourist Complex: This is a recreational center situated 7 kms away from Aizawl City center. There are facilities of Restaurant as well as Tourist Cottages ** Aizawl - Places of attraction** Bung A beautiful picnic spot situated on a hill Paikhai A quiet and enchanting picnic spot Tamdil A natural lake surrounded by cool virgin forests. Tamdil is the largest lake in Mizoram cultivated as a fish farm and with provision for boating. are available Dampa At the tri-junction of Bangladesh, Tripura and Mizoram, this wildlife sanctuary is home to the tiger, elephant, bear, bison and birds species. Kolasib Kolasib's main attraction are the Bairabi Hydel project and fishing in the Tlawng river in the state. Vantawng It is the highest and most beautiful waterfall in Mizoram Champhai is a busy Commercial town and is a Naturalist's paradise. It is an important agriculture and sericulture centre. 5 km away from Champhai is the Ruantlang village where glimses of the ancestral way of life of the Mizos can still be seen. Lunglei This rapidly developing town is an excellent place to visit the interiors of South Mizoram Phawngpui Literally meaning 'Blue Mountain' is located at a height of 2165 metres. Rich in exotic flowers, orchids, medicinal herbs, it is preserved by the Government of Mizoram and is open only to trekkers and hikers. Saiha With its picturesque landscape and the Chhimtuipui river rich in fish, Saiha is a paradise for anglers 45 km from Saiha is the Lake Palak. ** Aizawl - Shopping** The main shopping centers in Aizawl is Bara Bazar. Here all kinds of wears from garments, cosmetics, shoes too vegetable, poultry are available. This is the main city shopping center. For Handicraft, Zohanco in Zarkawt has shawls, puan, bags and furnishing materials. For bamboo works such as baskets, khumbeu the finely mizo woven bamboo cap are available at MKVI, Sales Emporium, Zarkawt. Besides, Solomon's Cave is the shopper's paradise for imported garments cosmetics and shoes.

It is situated on a ridge 1132 metres (3715 feet) above sea level, with the Tlawng River valley to its west and the Tuirial River valley to its east.
